Track of the Week - 21 April 2019
Mrs Tea at Johnny's' dad was with us for a few days this week and while he was here he picked up a couple of house jobs for us. (As I've said before, I'm not a practical man.)
One of those jobs was changing a radiator and he managed to live without my 'plumber's mate' skills. I could at least lug the new ones from his van and upstairs to make myself feel useful.
As I've already used Fade Away and Radiate I'm going with In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song). Written by David Lynch for his 1977 film Eraserhead*, it was originally performed by Laurel Near.
It's been covered many times since including by bands such as Bauhaus and The Danse Society whose records took up large chunks of my collection in the early 1980s. I'm going with this version by Pixies though as I was reminded this week (Twitter is good for something) that their album Doolittle is now 30 years old.
This track slightly predates that though. It was the b-side of the band's fantastic 1988 single Gigantic but I've gone with the John Peel session version from May of that year.
* I've never watched the film so can't tell you where or when or why the song fits or what it's got to do with radiators. If you want proper research I can set up a Patreon page and you can pay a couple of quid a month for it.
