The Goodies: Everybody Loves String

Track of the Week - 2 February 2020

Maybe I should have stopped after last week's fifth anniversary. The most exciting things this week was cracking an egg that was a double-yolker and the return to our garden of a string stealing squirrel.

As I've already used Never Trust a Man (With Egg on HIs Face) let's go down the string route.

Comedy trio The Goodies (Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie and Tim Brooke-Taylor) made nine series of surreal sketch and situation comedy for BBC and ITV between 1970 and 1982.

This clip comes from the episode It Might as Well Be String which first aired in October 1976. I'm not sure whether this is all there was (played over and over again) or if it's been edited because, well - the seventies were different times.

You can find out more about the episode on this (Australian but don't let that put you off) podcast. It will also give you an idea of why the show doesn't get repeated.
