The Fall: Kurious Oranj

Track of the Week - 26 September 2021

The Fall two weeks running - you lucky people!

Last night was my group of friends' big night out of the year which I've previously written about in 2016 and 2019. It was held back from its early January slot because of the pandemic but there was certainly a benefit to walking around Highworth on a more clement evening.

While this started off 30+ years ago as an attempt to drink a pint in each of ten pubs we've calmed down a bit, and anyway we're down to six hostelries and a curry plus we couldn't get in one as it closed at 10:15.

Our good friend Stu's 'fashion' of the evening was to wear an orange t-shirt, orange Tacchini jacket and to drink orange flavour gin wherever possible. (He also had a terrible moustache but we'll gloss over that.)

So I shall dedicate Kurious Oranj to him. The song is from the underrated 1988 album I Am Kurious Oranj which was intended as the soundtrack for the ballet I Am Curious, Orange, a collaboration with the dancer Michael Clark which is (very) loosely based on the 300th anniversary of William of Orange's ascension to the English throne. Are you keeping up?
